Obituary: Floyd Allen Thomas
KS_Newton — Floyd Allen Thomas, 69, retired BNSF Railroad
civil engineer, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, surrounded
by his family.
He was born July 22, 1943, in Butler County to George and
Nettie (Puckett) Thomas. Floyd was the youngest of nine children.
He and Barbara were married in Newton in November 1964 and
shared a wonderful life together. They resided in Euless, Texas, for the past
22 years and moved "home" to Newton recently.
Floyd was employed by BNSF Railroad as a civil engineer and
retired after 30 years of service. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter
and loved to smoke meat and spend time with his beloved grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; children,
Vicki (David) Harder of Newton, Scott Thomas of Montana and Jeff Thomas of
Newton; grandchildren, Andrew (Jamie) Harder of Newton, Alex Harder of Hays,
Joshua, Tiffany Xaria and Amelia Thomas of Montana; great-grandchildren,
Lillian and Allison Harder of Newton; siblings, Lida Wallace of Potwin, Betty
Whiteside of Potwin, John (Evelyn) Thomas of Oklahoma City, Bonnie Sommers of
Augusta and Doris Hazen of Arkansas City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one
brother.
A “celebration of life” visitation with family and
refreshments will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Faith Mennonite Church,
2100 N. Anderson Ave., Newton.
