Obituary: Carl Eugene Barden
KS_Newton — Carl Eugene Barden passed from this life to
the next on May 18, 2013.
Carl was born on May 25, 1935, to Cecil and Nora Barden in
Fairfax, Okla. Carl was the eldest of five children. He had three sisters,
Carol, Delores and Lucinda, and one brother, Robert. He married Betty Eaton. To
this union were born two children: daughter, Karen (Susie) of Newton, and son,
Steve of Newton.
Carl provided for his family with many jobs. For many years
he was a semi truck driver and heavy equipment operator for the oil fields in
the Fairfax-Ponca City, Okla., area. He then transferred to Great Bend for a
short time before making his home in Newton. He then continued his career as a
crane and earth-moving equipment operator for Wichita-based companies.
Carl then retired in 1993. In recent years, Carl enjoyed
filling his time with going to pawn shops, and buying and selling tools, where
he became known as the "Tool Man."
Carl is survived by his wife, Betty Barden; daughter, Karen
Thompson; son, Steve and Geraldine Barden; sisters, Carol (Sis) and Richard
Matthews of Killeen, Texas, Lucinda (Cinda) and Calvin Redburn of Tuttle,
Okla.; one sister-in-law, Betty Barden of Fairfax, Okla.
There are six grandchildren, Kristine, Anthony, Michael,
Jaclyn, Josh and Joey; and six great-grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Nora of
Fairfax, Okla.; brother, Robert Barden of Fairfax, Okla.; and sister, Delores
Olsen of Grand Junction, Colo.; and grandson, Matthew Barden of Newton.
Memorials may be made to The Coffee Garden, in care of
Kansas Christian Home, his favorite hang-out.
Services will be held at a later date.
