Obituary: Harold Lee Sloan
KS_Newton -- Harold Lee Sloan, age 83 years, passed away
on April 7, 2013, in Coupeville, Wash.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1929, in Newton to Finis and Elva
(Stuck) Sloan. In his youth, he worked at his father’s shoe repair business,
The Electric Shoe Shop in Newton. He went on to work for the Santa Fe railroad
and the U.S. Air Force before going to work for Boeing. He retired from Boeing
after a long career.
He was married and widowed twice, first to Verda Ramsey for
49 years and second to Thelma (Nita) Brusha for 10 years. In 1968 he moved his
family to Washington. In 2009, he moved to Whidbey Island, where he resided at
Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville. Harold enjoyed ham radio, computers,
landscaping, gardening, barbecues, pets and genealogy. After retiring, he
traveled extensively with his wife, Nita.
Family was always most important to Harold.
He was preceded in death by his two wives; his parents; and
his companion of three years, Margaret McIntyre.
He is survived by his sister, JoAnn Moore, and family of
Dallas, Texas; and his three children, Steve and wife Tammi Sloan of Langley,
Wash., with their children Shannon and Lauren, husband Anthony LaPoint, Cindy
and husband James “Ben” Kelley of Snohomish, Wash., with their children James
and Lisa, fiancé Derek Del Valle, and Marsha Sloan and Rod Eckberg of Clinton,
Wash. He was also dad and grandfather to Nita’s family: Bobbie Weitzel and
Terri Desrosiers of Langley, Wash., with their children Ryan and Bailey, and
Denny Thomas and wife Megan of Seattle, Wash., with their children Dylan and
Wyatt Thomas.
A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at Careage of
Whidbey. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal
shelter in Harold’s honor.
