Obituary: Herman Dalke
Herman Dalke died December 30, 2012, at Newton. He was born
on September 18, 1921, in Fort Cobb, OK. He was the oldest son of Henry and
Carrie Base Dalke. He graduated from Broxton High School in Oklahoma. He was
the big brother to six siblings: Irwin (Nora Bell) Dalke, Hesston, Ruby (Alvin)
Unruh, Fort Cobb, OK, Norman (Mickie) Dalke, Yukon, OK, Ruthie (Leo)
Nightingale, Fort Cobb, OK, Edith (Bennie) Unruh, Halstead, and Edward (Joyce)
Dalke, Hesston. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Selma; brother,
Irwin; brother-in-law, Leo; and sister-in-law, Mickie. He married Selma Louise
Flickinger on April 20, 1944, in Burrton. Selma died on March 31, 1980, in
Hutchinson. Herman and Selma had seven children: Bob (Flauretta) Dalke, Buhler,
Don (Debbie) Dalke, Wichita, Daniel (Bonnie) Dalke, Fort Worth, TX, Ric (Carol)
Dalke, Garden City, Randy (Karen) Dalke, Des Moines, IA, Kathi Dalke, Wichita,
and David Dalke, Alexandria, VA. On October 11, 1981, in Burrton, Herman
married Leila Ruth Davis Flickinger. She had four daughters: Susan (David)
Martin, Watauga, TX, Kelly Streigel, Newton, Michelle Schreiber, Laramie, WY,
and Deanne Flickinger, Brookfield, MO.Herman and Selma had 11 grandchildren:
Tisha (Jeff) Brown, Hutchinson, Chad (Rebekah) Dalke, Homer, AK, Dawn Michelle
(Nathan) Hoyle, Wichita, Denai (Toby) Lee, Wichita, Mindy (Paul) Kirkwood,
Saginaw, TX, Shandra Dalke, Fort Worth, TX, Nathan (Amy) Dalke, Managua,
Nicaragua, Laura Kay (Greg) Dickman, Andover, Remington (Kelly) Dalke, Lyons,
Adam Dalke, Alexandria, VA, and Megan Monares, Wichita. Herman and Selma had 17
great-grandchildren: Kyle (Kaylie) Brown, Trace Brown, Kaya and Talli Dalke,
Mitchell and Tessa Hoyle, Robyn and Gracey Lee, Cheyenne and Sierra Ann
Kirkwood, Alicia, Gabriel and Joash Dalke, Kassidy and Aliyah Dickman, Kaliber
and Emry Dalke. Herman and Selma had one great-great-grandchild: Kyson Brown.
Herman and Selma lived most of their 36 years together in Hutchinson. Herman
worked at Barton and Cargill Salt Company and Selma worked at several different
places, the last being Friendship Day Care. In Herman’s second family there
were five grandchildren: John (Sheryl) Rogers, OK, James Rogers, Hurst, TX,
Garion Hamner, Watauga, TX, Amber (Zac) Williams and Trevor Streigel, Newton.In
Herman’s second family there were nine great-grandchildren: LeeAnn and
Elizabeth Rogers, Samuel, Ezekiel, Naomi and Jekamiah Williams, Kai Streigel,
Amber and Kristina Ellison. There are also three great-great-grandchildren:
RaShaun, Navaaiah and Zaden Ellison. He also is survived by the
Flickinger-Davis extended family. Herman was very involved and a member of
Burrton Mennonite Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards with his
family, watching baseball, and “The Price Is Right” on television. Herman
passed from this life into his home in heaven on December 30, surrounded by his
loving family. His funeral service is at Buhler Mennonite Church Friday,
January 4, 2013, at 2 p. m., and the burial at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in
Hutchinson. Viewing at 6 to 8 p. m. Thursday at Kaufman Funeral Home in
Halstead. Memorials to the Burrton Mennonite Church or the Mennonite Central
Committee for disaster service are welcome. We will miss him, but are thankful
for the eternal love and joy that he is now a part of.
