Obituary: Stanley Voran
HESSTON — Stanley Voran was born on the family farm
southeast of Kingman on March 7, 1923, the youngest of five children of Jacob
J. and Christina K. Voran. He died on Dec. 31, 2012, in Andover, at the age of
89.Stan attended a one-room school in Kingman County--Clearwater, District 49.
He graduated from Kingman High School in 1941 and began farming, not by choice
but because of circumstances. He retired from this vocation in 1984.Stan and
Ellen Ruth Lohrentz were married on Dec. 29, 1950, in the Hebron Mennonite
Church, rural Buhler. Stan and Ellen lived on the family farm until moving to
Schowalter Villa in 2009. They were married 62 years and two days. Stan was
baptized upon his confession of faith and joined the Bethany Mennonite Church
of rural Kingman on Sept. 18, 1938. In 1991, Stan and Ellen joined Pleasant
Valley Mennonite Church in Harper, and in 2009 they became members of Hesston
Mennonite Church. He was active in church life throughout these years. He is
survived by his wife, Ellen Voran; son and daughter-in-law, Roxie and Lynda Voran
of Houston, Texas; and granddaughters, Emily and Rebecca Voran, also of
Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willard M. and
William C.; and sisters, Bertha Kaufman and Ruth Koon Kaufman. Celebration of
life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Hesston Mennonite Church.
