Obituary: Alfred Sauer
MOUNDRIDGE — Alfred Sauer, 78, died December 1, 2012, at
Mercy Hospital, Moundridge. He was born October 12, 1934, at Ellis, Kansas, the
son of Adam and Augusta Hoffmann Sauer. On September 11, 1960, he married Anne
Krehbiel of Moundridge, the daughter of Nelson W. and Gladys H. Krehbiel. Anne
died on April 22, 2001.In his earlier years, Alfred was associated with
Krehbiel Investments and the Clayton Vogt Lumber Company. In his later years he
was active at the Moundridge Senior Center, where he served on the Senior
Citizens Commission, for 6 years as chairman, and played on the pool team. He
was also on the board of the McPherson County Council on Aging. He is survived
by a full sister and brother: Anna Kingham of Norton, Kansas, and Gus Sauer of
Hays, Kansas. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Anne; Anne’s
parents; two full brothers, Ludwig and Rudolph; two half brothers, Adam and
Ernest; two full sisters, Minnie Kingham and Louise Powell; and two half
sisters, Martha Armbrister and Marie Armbrister.A memorial service will be held
at the West Zion Mennonite Church, Moundridge, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m.,
Wednesday, December 5, 2012. A private family entombment will be in the Halstead
Mausoleum, Halstead, Kansas. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Moundridge Funeral Home. Memorials may be
given to the Moundridge Senior Citizens Center, in care of the funeral home.
