Obituary: Harris H. Waltner
Harris H. Waltner, 87, died November 23, 2012, at Kidron
Bethel Village in North Newton, KS. He was born January 17, 1925, in Marion,
South Dakota, to Henry and Ida (Kaufman) Waltner. On August 15, 1951, he
married Christine Duerksen at First Mennonite Church in Newton, KS. Harris was
a graduate of Bethel College, North Newton, KS, and Mennonite Biblical
Seminary, Chicago, IL. He served as pastor for General Conference Mennonite
Church/Mennonite Church USA congregations in Moundridge, KS, Ritzville, WA,
Mountain Lake, MN, Ft. Wayne, IN, and Manhattan, KS. In addition, he and
Christine spent six years in Maseru, Lesotho, where Harris was pastor of the
Maseru United Church. He was a member of Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton, KS.
His wife, Christine, survives, other survivors include a son John and wife Pam
Waltner of Woodinville, WA; two daughters Carol and husband Stan Buller of
Lenexa, KS; Marilyn and husband Joe Loganbill of Newton, KS; a sister Hilda
Kaufman of Freeman, SD, and eight grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his
parents and two brothers James and Calvin Waltner. A memorial service is
scheduled for Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 11:00AM at Shalom Mennonite
Church Newton, KS. Memorials may be made to Mennonite Church USA for leadership
