Obituary: Calvin E. “Cal” Schroeder
ARLINGTON — Calvin E. “Cal” Schroeder, 88, died Sunday, Dec.
23, 2012, at his home. He was born at Newton, July 1, 1924, the son of Adolf
and Elizabeth Dirksen Schroeder. He was a 1942 graduate of Goessel High School,
a 1950 graduate of Bethel College and also Emporia State University. Calvin was
involved with education, being a teacher, coach and school administrator in
western Reno County most of his career including Langdon, Fairfield and
Arlington schools. He was also a custom harvester for more than 50 years, a
member of Arlington United Methodist Church and KNEA. On Aug. 8, 1954, he
married Nancy Kathleen Woodson in Penalosa. She survives. Other survivors
include two daughters and their husbands, Kathy Schroeder and Richard Drake,
Canton, Celia and Doug Stucky, Cimarron; a son-in-law, Tim Swartzendruber,
McPherson; six grandchildren, Karody and Mike Wall, Katie and Ryan Small, Tyler
Swartzendruber, Alex Drake, Kelsey Stucky and Taylor Swartzendruber; two
great-granddaughters, Alayna and Zada Wall; and numerous nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kristen Swartzendruber; and a
brother and his wife, Richard and Olga Schroeder. Burial was Dec. 27, 2012, at
Lerado Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Arlington United Methodist
Church with Pastor Ken Keeling officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts
may be made to the church, Arlington Library or the Kristen Swartzendruber
