Obituary: Myrtice Marie (Woodhead) Fuqua
HESSTON — Myrtice Marie (Woodhead) Fuqua, 85, of Hesston,
Kansas, passed away peacefully at Schowalter Villa in Hesston on November 15,
2012. She was born on January 31, 1927, to Matthew and Devena (Seybold)
Woodhead on the homestead in McLouth, the third of six children. Myrtice
graduated from McLouth High School. She married Jerry William Fuqua on Feb. 10,
1946, in the home of her parents in McLouth. He preceded her in death. Myrtice
was a homemaker and farmwife. After moving from the farm, Myrtice was employed
as clerk for the McLouth School District for over 20 years. She loved music and
served as pianist and organist and sang in the choir at the McLouth United
Methodist Church. She also clerked for her brother-in-law’s auctions for a
number of years. Myrtice’s greatest joy was her family whom she lovingly served
by cooking, baking, sewing and cheering and encouraging from the stands at more
sporting events than can be counted. After retirement she enjoyed traveling
with Jerry taking special trips to Alaska and France, where they attended a
reunion of fellow World War II veterans. After Jerry’s death, Myrtice moved to
Hesston in 1999 to be near family, where she continued her hobbies and became
an active participant at the Hesston Wellness Center. She joined the Hesston
United Methodist Church and was very involved in volunteer activities. She is
survived by Larry and Becky Fuqua, Hesston, Bill and Nancy Fuqua, McPherson,
Max and Sandra Fuqua, Inman, and Don and Diane Fuqua, Newton. Grandchildren are
Chad and Abbie Fuqua, Karla Boaldin, Michael and Jenny Costanzo, Lori Fuqua,
Matt and Jamie Fuqua, Pat and Amy Flaming, Andrew and Karen Alexander, Brandon
and Alia Fuqua, Kyndra, Aaron, Allyssa and Riley Fuqua; nine stepgrandchildren;
and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Helen Bates, Rose Hill,
and Anabel (Wayne) Knapp, Easton; brother, Marlin Woodhead, Lenexa; and
sister-in-law, Oona Mae Woodhead, McLouth. Preceding her in death were her
parents; her husband, Jerry; brother, Marcus Woodhead; and sister, Thelma
Farris. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 19, at Hesston
United Methodist Church, 606 N. Ridge Road, Hesston, with Pastor Geniese
Stanford officiating. Interment will be at the Leavenworth National Cemetery,
150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 9 a.m.
Visitation with family present will be on Sunday, November 18, 2012, from 4 to
6 p.m. at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts
may be made to the United Methodist Church in either Hesston or McLouth, in
