Obituary: Della Corrine (Hull) Lawrence
Della Corrine (Hull) Lawrence, age 85, of Newton, and
formerly of Guymon, Okla., and Matfield Green, left this world for her heavenly
home on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, in Newton. A celebration of life service will be
at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the Matfield Community Church in Matfield
Green, with the Rev. Billie Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the
Matfield Green Cemetery. She was born Nov. 3, 1927, to Horace Leslie Hull and
Bernice Irene (Watchous) Hull in rural Chase County. Upon graduating from
Matfield Green High School, with the class of 1945, she went to work as a
telegrapher for the Atchison Topeka Santa Fe Railroad. She married Robert E.
Lawrence on April 6, 1947, in her parents’ home in Matfield Green. They
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary prior to his death on Aug. 5, 2007.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. They both had a love
for animals, and through the years many stray dogs and cats were blessed with
their compassionate care. She was a member of the Straight Christian Church in
rural Guymon, Okla., and attended Matfield Community Church prior to moving to
Newton in 2007. Newton Christian Church was her church family at the time of
her death. She is survived by two daughters, Terri Lawrence of Wichita and
Sherri Funk of Newton; a granddaughter, Stacy Thomas; a great-grandson, Vance
Thomas of Newton; and a brother, Dale and his wife, Ginger Hull of El Dorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Roger L. Funk; a
brother, Delmar Hull; and a sister, Mary L. Danby. The family met friends
Monday, Nov. 19, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood
Falls. Memorials have been established with the Matfield Community Church and
Lifeline Animal Place and Protection at 310 W. 45th St. N., Wichita, KS 67204.
