Bette Parker Jacobs
Obituary
Bette Parker Jacobs, 87, formerly of
Sedgwick and Canton, died of complications from Parkinson's Disease
on Oct. 21, 2016, in Anaheim, California. Bette was born to Ed and
Blanche Parker in McCamey, Texas on May 20, 1929. Ed was an early
pioneer in the West Texas oilfields. Bette and her family later moved
to Canton, where she attended elementary school, then to Sedgwick,
where she completed elementary and high school. Bette was active in
the school band and led the marching band as drum majorette, and was
also homecoming queen. One week after graduation she was married to
her loving husband Bob Jacobs, who was attending Kansas State
University after his Navy service in WWII. Their first son was born
while they were at Kansas State.
After graduating from Kansas State in
1949, Bob and Bette returned to Sedgwick for several years. In 1952,
Bob joined the FBI. Thereafter Bob's career took them to Louisiana,
Mississippi, Philadelphia and New Jersey, adding another son along
the way. After a four year return to Sedgwick, where Bob and Bette
operated a retail store, Bob rejoined the FBI in 1959. He was
assigned to the Los Angeles FBI office in 1960 where son number three
was born. The family settled in Whittier from 1960 until 1973, when
they moved to La Habra, California.
Bette's life cannot be remembered
without recognizing her devotion to her family, her community, her
many friends and mostly her devotion to Jesus Christ. Her life
revolved around living every day devoted to sharing the gospel by
word and actions. She devotedly cared for her husband Bob through
several years of deteriorating health, prior to his death in 1992.
She was a longtime member of Granada Heights Friends Church, La
Mirada, California, where she was a leader and teacher in women's
ministries. She loved her home, which was a nurturing place for her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bette was preceded in death by her
husband Bob; her sister Louise; and brother Jim. She is survived by
her three sons Dan (Gretchen), Mt. Hood, Oregon, Richard (Nicola),
Vista, California and James (Jenny), Fullerton, California; sister
Dixie Anderson (Terry), Wichita; seven grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.
Her family is extremely grateful to the
staff at Charlou Guest Home, Anaheim, California, for the amazing
love and care they provided for Bette in her final years. A memorial
service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 21, 2017, at Granada Heights
Friends Church, La Mirada, California.
Contributions in memory of Bette may be
made to the Missions Ministry fund at Granada Heights Friends Church,
La Mirada, California.
