Obituary: Neva Coester
KS_Newton -- Neva Coester was born to Hallie French Boyd and
William S. Boyd near Walnut on Feb. 15, 1917. She attended school in Crawford
County, graduating from Walnut High School in 1934.
After graduation, she worked at the courthouse in Girard
until her marriage to Leland Coester in 1937. She was a homemaker while her
children, Thora Eileen and Wade, were in school. She spent time attending
school activities and was a room mother several times.
In 1960, the family moved to Newton, where her husband,
Leland, worked for Dannen Mills. Neva worked as an office manager for Kinder
Manufacturing for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of First United
Methodist Church and, at different times, served as church treasurer, church
auditor and financial secretary. She was a member of Rachel Circle, United
Methodist Women and the Dubble Builders Sunday school class.
Neva and Leland were married for 72 years before Leland's
death April 6, 2010. She is survived by a daughter, Thora Eileen Bloomcamp of
Coffeyville; a son, Wade Coester and his wife, Lee Anne of Cottonwood Falls;
six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Nancy Bloomcamp of Topeka, Jim
Bloomcamp of Tahlequah, Okla., Janet Mayhew and husband, Todd, and daughter,
Emma, of Pittsburg, Steve Bloomcamp and children, Charlie, Lilli and Shawna of
Winfield, Stacy Dashiell and husband, Christian, and children, Elli, Zachary
and Hana of Sterling, and Nikki Coester of Topeka. Her sister Reta Kennedy and
husband, Kenneth, live in Kansas City, and five nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law,
Charles Bloomcamp; and two sisters, Thora Byers and Rema Dalton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 9,
2012) at First United Methodist Church in Newton, with burial following at 4
p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2012) at Girard Cemetery in Girard.
Memorials to the Rachel Circle at First United Methodist
Church of Newton are suggested.
