Newton – Thomas John β€œTom” McGraw, 88, of Hutchinson, died October 6, 2012 at Dillon Living Center. Tom was born Sept. 8, 1924 in Newton, Ks., to Benedict and Cecile Utterback McGraw. He graduated from Newton High School in May, 1943, served in the Army Air Corps. from June, 1943 to Oct., 1945. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated from the University of Wichita in 1953. He was employed by The Garden City Telegram from 1953-1955 and The Hutchinson News from 1955-1988. Tom married Clarice Cooper January 20, 1952. She survives. Other survivors include four children; Marcia Rohrer (John), Joseph, Rob (Annette), and Molly Soukup (Monte); six grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; a sister, Nancy Kuehnle; four nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret and Julia. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Grace Episcopal Church, with The Rt. Rev. Michael P. Milliken presiding. A private family inurnment will be in the church garden columbarium. A registry may be signed Thursday – Sunday, 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, or the HCC Jazz Program, sent in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, Ks. 67501.
