Obituary: Ross W. Van Rossun
KS_Newton -- Ross W. Van Rossun, 89, died on Thursday (Oct.
25, 2012) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. He was born on Dec. 5, 1922, in
Burrton to Fred and Vitline (LaGreee) Van Rossun. On June 26, 1949, he married
Elda Van Rossun in Goessel, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1987. He
married Doris Bean Van Rossun on May 15, 1988, in Newton, and she survives. In
addition to many local businesses, Ross worked for American Coach and the City
of Newton prior to his retirement. He was a longtime active member of First
Christian Church in Newton, where he served as a deacon and elder emeritus. He
is survived by his wife, Doris of North Newton; sons, Rick Van Rossun of
Walton, Delbert Van Rossun of Temple, Texas, and Gerald Van Rossun of
Zephyrhills, Fla.; daughters, Diane Burdick of Bossier City, La., and Carol Ann
Scroggie of Belleview, Fla.; stepdaughters, Phyllis Lee Hirst of Shell Knob,
Mo., Margaret Waggoner of McPherson, Janet Stoecklein of Hutchinson, and Carol
Jean Heathwaite of Austin, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents; first
wife; three sisters, Norene Martin, Veda Slaven and Delight Angle; and a
brother, Clifford Van Rossun. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday (Oct.
29, 2012) at First Christian Church in Newton, with the Rev. Gary Bell
officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral
Home in Newton, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will
be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. Memorials may be left with First
Christian Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Kansas Christian Home, in
care of Petersen Funeral Home.
