Obituary: Susan Alldritt Basore
Susan Alldritt Basore, 65, of rural Bentley, passed away
peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday (Sept. 2, 2012) from cancer. Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. Friday (Sept. 7, 2012) at the United Methodist
Church in Halstead, with graveside services following at Pleasant Valley
Cemetery in Bentley. Visitation with family will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Thursday (Sept. 6, 2012) at Kaufman Funeral Home. Susan was a graduate of East
High School in Wichita. She met her husband Richard Basore on a blind date
while they both were attending Kansas State University, and they were married
on Aug. 24, 1968. She then graduated from Wichita State University with a
degree in elementary education. Susan taught fifth grade at Halstead Grade
School in Halstead, and she became the first female elected to the district’s
board of education, where she served for 12 years, also serving as its
president. She was a homemaker and farm wife for several years while on the
school board. After returning to WSU and earning a legal assistant degree, she
then worked for the law firms of Kahrs Nelson, Hite Fanning and Honeyman, and
retired from Wallace Saunders, all of Wichita. Susan was an artist. She enjoyed
collecting and selling antiques, and she was a lifelong fan of Kansas State
University sports. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Richard; her
parents, John and Evelyn Alldritt of Wichita; sister, Jennifer (Larry) Goodgion
of Wilmington, N.C.; sister, Celeste (Jim) Lee of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter,
Susannah (Mike) McGinn of Sedgwick; daughter, Sarah (Jason) Butell of Olathe;
son, Ben Basore of Overland Park; and three grandchildren, Ashton, Kade and
Tate McGinn of Sedgwick. Memorials may be sent to The Learning Center for
