Bertha Adina Goertz Schroeder
GOESSEL - Bertha Adina Goertz Schroeder, 98, a homemaker, died Wednesday (Aug. 11, 2010) at Bethesda Home in Goessel.
She was born on April 4, 1912, to Henry F. Goertz and Martha Schmidt Goertz on a farm near Walton. 
On Sept. 30, 1936, she married Herbert Schroeder. He preceded her in death in 1994.
In 1947, after having lived on various rented farms in the Peabody and Burns area, Herb and Bertha bought a farm north of Walton. Here she farmed side by side with her husband and helped operate a dairy until they retired to Goessel in 1973.
Bertha was a faithful member of Tabor Mennonite Church. She belonged to the Tabor Sewing Society and held various offices in it through the years.
For 40 years, she taught Sunday school.
When she could no longer attend church, she enjoyed keeping up with its activities through the bulletins, newsletters and video broadcasts.
She served on the Goessel Library Board for eight years.
She and Herb competed in bowling and pool tournaments and she kept records for his horse shoe competitions.
Bertha enjoyed quilting and belonged to the Bethesda Quilters for a number of years.
She moved to the Bethesda Nursing Home in 1993.
She was preceded in death by a son, Herb Schroeder Jr.; and a daughter, Judy Schroeder Tomlonson.
Surviving her are a daughter, Mary and Jarrell Jones of Newton; daughter-in-law, Elaine Schroeder of Goessel; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Goessel.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tabor Mennonite Church in rural Goessel, with Pastor Corey Miller officiating. Private burial will be at Tabor Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Goessel.
Memorials may be made to the Bethesda Home Resident Care Fund or F.I.R.S.T. (Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types) in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Goessel.
