Vilas L. Kaufman
Obituary
Vilas Leonard Kaufman, 92, died on
Friday (Dec. 9, 2016) at Pine Village Care Center in Moundridge.
Vilas was born in Moundridge on Feb.
19, 1924, to Ray and Emma (Schrag) Kaufman.
Vilas married Donna D. Neel on Aug. 18,
1944, and they were married for 65 years, until her death in 2010.
Vilas and Donna moved to Fresno,
California, in 1962, where he sold real estate and served as a
counselor in a juvenile detention center. Upon his retirement in
1982, they moved to Newton to be near family and friends.
Vilas loved music and sang in
barbershop quartets and for many weddings and funerals. He coached
and loved baseball, and also basketball in the offseason.
He is survived by his children, Sherry
(Larry) Nuehring and Rick (Barbara) Kaufman; sister, Velora Peters;
grandchildren, Stacey Dennett and family, Jana McKinney Hedrick and
family and Keenan Kaufman and family; and his great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Ray and Emma Kaufman; wife, Donna Kaufman; grandson, Lance
McKinney; one brother; and two sisters.
