Helen R. Janzen
Helen R. Janzen, 89, passed away on
Monday (July 26, 2010) at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton.
She was born on July 7, 1921, to
Cornelius J. and Marie Friesen Schmidt. She grew up near Goessel,
attending Tabor Mennonite Church. She was baptized on June 14, 1939.
She graduated from Goessel High School.
Helen married Arthur Janzen on Nov. 6,
1947, at Tabor Church. They moved to North Newton and were charter
members of Faith Mennonite Church. She was active in the women's
organization. Before the move to Kidron Bethel, she faithfully folded
bulletins every week.
She was a homemaker but also worked at
Moors in Cedar Village and at the MCC North Newton cutting room. She
made many friends while selling Amway products.
After Arthur retired, she assisted him
for 19 years, making and selling his wood creations at craft shows.
Survivors include one son, Randall and
his wife Rachel of Turpin, Okla.; granddaughter, Kristina and husband
Pete Brady of Liberal; grandson, Kristopher Janzen of Edmond, Okla.;
and two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Ashlynn Brady. She has a
wonderful group of nieces and nephews in the area who have helped her
in many ways.
Helen was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Arthur; brothers, Ferd (Edna), Jake (Hazel) and
Edwin; and sisters, Olga (Henry) Pankratz, Alice (John) Dirksen,
Esther (Herbert) Klassen, Mary (John) Golden and Martha (Abe) Peters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.
Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the
Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m.
Friday at Faith Mennonite Church with the Rev. Gordon Smith
officiating.
Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. at Tabor
Church cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service.
