Charles A. "Chuck"
Hollingshead passed from this life on Thursday (Dec. 29, 2016) at
Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
Chuck was born at home in Garnett on
Nov. 23, 1928, to Frank and Frances Hollingshead, and continued
living there until until he joined the Marine Corps in 1946. In 1948,
he left the Marines as a Corporal and attended the University of
Kansas. In 1951, while living in Kansas City, Kansas, he met Barbara
Watkins on a blind date and married her six weeks later. They were
married for 65 years.
In 1956, they moved to Newton to be
closer to Barb's family. Chuck worked for Safeway Stores and in 1960
began his long career with the U.S. Postal Service, until he retired
in 1990. They attended and were active at several churches in Newton,
including First Baptist, Bible Baptist and Newton Bible, where Chuck
served in several capacities, including as Deacon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday
(Jan. 3, 2016) at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. A viewing
will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday (Jan. 1, 2016) at Peterson's and
final internment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery in Zimmerdale.
Chuck was preceded in death by his
parents and his only brother, Wallace of Beloit.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara,
who lives at Kansas Christian Home in Newton; son, Dan (Patti)
Hollingshead of Longmont, Colorado; daughter, Becky (Bill) Smoldt of
Castle Rock, Colorado; and son Tim (Denise) Hollingshead of Wichita.
His survivors also include six grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.
