Obituary

Percy Vaughn, 82, died Saturday (Dec. 31, 2016) at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He was born January 15, 1934 in Wister, Oklahoma to James W. and Rosa (Lucas) Vaughn. On June 2, 1961 he married Fern Jones at Guthrie, Oklahoma, and she survives of the home.

Percy served his country in the US Army in peacetime Korea and he was a retired dispatcher for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was a charter member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton where he faithfully served the church for many years in many capacities including as a Deacon and on the Board of Officers. He enjoyed woodworking and was known for his mechanic skills. He was a kind and giving person of time. Percy's most important time was spent being with his loving family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife Fern of Newton; daughters: Pam and her husband Gregory Rodriguez of Newton, and Teri Sergeant and her partner Jeff Eubank of Emporia. He is also survived by five granddaughters: Shanda, Alisha, Kaitlynn, Stasia and Megan and two great grandsons: Liam and Ethan

Percy is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Buck and Basil Vaughn and sister Tess Huckaby and six nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday (Jan. 6, 2017) at Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton, with Pastor Mike Ronan presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Baptist Church in Care of Petersen Funeral Home.
