Obituary: Jay Lee Carter
Jay Lee Carter, 59, died on Sunday (Aug. 12, 2012) at the
Newton Medical Center, after a long and dignified fight with prostate cancer. Jay
was born on June 13, 1953, to J. Lee Carter and Virginia Lou Snyder Carter in
Chanute. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Jay graduated from
Hutchinson High School in 1971 and Hutchinson Community Junior College in 1973.
He attended Kansas State University and graduated from Wichita State University
in history and political science. Jay was married to Rebekah Esau on Dec. 28,
1996, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. They were married for
15 years and lived in Newton. Jay was a supervisor for Norcraft Industries in
Newton. He worked there for 21 years. Jay is survived by his wife, Rebekah
Carter; stepchildren, Sarah Esau and Michael Esau (Angie); stepgrandchildren,
Jayden, Justin, Dakota and Shea; mother, Virginia Lou Carter; sister, Kim Witt
(Jim); and brother, Max Carter (Marsha).?He was preceded in death by his
father, J. Lee Carter. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 16,
2012) at Petersen Family Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. Visitation will be from
1 to 9 p.m. today (Aug. 15, 2012) at Petersen Family Funeral Home. The family
will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. during the visitation. An inurnment
will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson. Memorial
