Obituary: Rose Breitenstein
Rose Breitenstein, 95, passed away on Wednesday (Aug. 22,
2012) at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. She was born on April 12, 1917, in Mountain
Lake, Minn., the daughter of Gerhard and Helena Voth Nickel. She was a graduate
with the Newton High School class of 1935.
On Jan. 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to George Breitenstein. She
worked as a secretary for Cessna for 29 years. She was an avid quilter, and she
liked to tend to her yard and garden. She
is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jan and husband, Ron Hill; grandsons,
Darryl and wife, Mindy Hill, and Mike and wife, Callie Hill, all of Whitewater;
her four great-grandchildren, Shanna Hill of Abilene, Travis Hill, stationed in
South Korea, and Mikayla and Mikinzie Hill of Whitewater; and a
great-great-granddaughter, Lily. She was preceded in death by her husband,
George; her sister, Luella Pixley; and her brothers, Milton, Allen and Ray
Nickel. Visitation with family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lamb Funeral
Home of Whitewater. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday (Aug. 27, 2012)
at the Federated Church of Whitewater. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery
in Newton. Memorial funds have been established for the Whitewater Memorial
Library or the Whitewater Fire Department, in care of Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S.
Main, Whitewater, KS 67154.
