James E. Combs Jr.
James E. Combs Jr., 91, gently left
this earth to be with his heavenly father on the morning of Sunday
(July 22, 2012).
Jim was born to James and Alice Prior
Combs on Nov. 9, 1920, in Kansas City. He was an Eagle Scout and an
altar server at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kansas City,
graduating from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City in 1938.
Jim married Miss Grace McCracken on
July 25, 1940, and they were married for 72 years.
During World War II, Jim was
commissioned first lieutenant as an engineering officer in the Army
Air Corp. He worked as a machinist for 35 years, then Jim owned his
own machine shop for another 35 years.
Jim was a very sensitive and loving
man; he will be sadly missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Grace and
three children, James Combs III and wife, Melinda of Albany, Mo.,
Michael Combs and wife, Cindy of Newton, and Julie Mintner and
husband, Joe of Higginsville, Mo.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Combs;
seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a niece; and three
nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.
Monday (July 30, 2012) at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 2001
Windsor Drive, Newton.
The family will greet friends at the
church from noon until 1 p.m. Monday, and a reception will follow the
funeral. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in
Sedgwick.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been
established with St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Contributions may be
sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS
