Elizabeth May Cope
Elizabeth May (Bloomfield) Cope, 90, loving daughter, mother
and grandmother, died on Saturday (July 21, 2012) at Asbury Park in Newton.
Elizabeth, a longtime resident of Sikeston, Mo., had relocated to Newton in
2007 to be closer to her daughter, Kathy Littleton, and her family. Elizabeth
was born on July 11, 1922, in Sikeston to the late S.T. (Shirley Thomas) and
Ruth (Harper) Bloomfield. She remained devoted to her parents, who relied
greatly upon her until the time of their deaths. Elizabeth worked for Potlatch
and retired due to health concerns after 25 years of service.
She joined First Christian Church in Sikeston on Dec. 2,
1935, and she remained a member there for 77 years. At the time of her death,
she was the longest surviving member of the congregation. Elizabeth loved her
church and its members and served as a deaconess. She belonged to the Christian
Women's Fellowship and was a loyal member of her Sunday school class.
Elizabeth is survived by one son, Stephen Cope of Bennett,
Colo., and one daughter, Katherine (Harry) Littleton of Newton. She also is
survived by five grandchildren and was expecting her first two
great-grandchildren this year.
Elizabeth was a kind and caring grandmother who was very
proud of her grandchildren and loved to tell about all their accomplishments.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death
by her older brother, Thomas E.
Bloomfield, and younger brother, John H. Bloomfield.
