Obituary

NEWTON — Beatrice “Bea” Breitenstein died on Thursday (June 7, 2012) at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center at Via Christi Regional Medical Center- St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

She was born on July 1, 1925, in Newton to Esther (Gaines) and Otto Weber.

On Oct. 19, 1942, she married Ora C. Breitenstein in McPherson. He died on July 28, 2004.

Bea belonged to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. She was a nurse for 46 years before entering retirement. Bea had worked with Dr. Arnold Isaac and then Dr. Charles Isaac for 43 and half years. Other organizations she was active in were the Wichita Barbwire, Flatlanders Buckle Club and the National Association of the Belt Buckle Collectors. Bea made many lifetime friendships through her buckle clubs. In 2005, Bea was awarded the Newton Professional Business Woman of the Year award. She was a member of the Kansas Medical Society for 15 years, serving as president many times. Also, Bea was a member of the Kansas Christian Hospital Board for many years.

Bea was a very kind and loving lady. She will be missed dearly by her family, her friends and her loving dog, Precious.

Survivors include son, Terry and his wife, Nancy of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren, Matthew (wife  Brittney) of Birmingham, Ala., and Meredith Breitenstein of Brimingham, Ala.; one great-grandson, Noah; sister, Alberta Harms of El Dorado; half-sister, Marilyn Schoonver of Eureka; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her spouse, Ora.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday (June 10, 2012) at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, with the family greeting from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday (June 11, 2012) at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church. Pastor Cheryl Jefferson Bell will be presiding. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church or Caring Hands Humane Society, in care of the funeral home at 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
