Obituary

NEWTON — Carolea Blanche Dick, 76, died on Thursday (May 24, 2012) at her Newton residence.

She was born on July 1, 1935, in Newton to Carroll and Claudine (Park) Dick. She was a member of Newton High School class of 1953 and kept in close contact with her classmates. She was a co-treasurer of the committee preparing for their 60th reunion in 2013. She attended Kansas State University. She worked as a legal secretary in the Offices of David W Wheeler, Attorney, followed by working as Assistant Clerk in the Harvey County District Court and later the Harvey County Court Services/Probation office. She retired from the Federal District Court in Wichita in 2001. .

Friends and family were very important to Carolea. She was especially close to her nieces and nephews and her many friends in the Newton community. She enjoyed living at Lincoln Park Apartments and made many friends after moving there in 2010.

Carolea developed a love for retired racing greyhounds. She served as chairman of the board of the Race The Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc. in Wichita; she was currently serving as treasurer. She spent many hours fund raising and volunteering for the group. She also adopted and found homes for many retired greyhounds.

Carolea served as a volunteer at the Newton Medical Center gift shop and was a member of the local Red Hat Society. She was a good cook and collected cookbooks for many years. She estimated her collection holds about 8000 cookbooks. Carolea had a big heart and warm smile at the ready and enjoyed meeting new people and making friends.

Her parents and brother, Frederick Dick, predeceased her. She is survived by her sister Ruth Anne and husband Jim Lange of Minnesota and Florida, her sister-in-law Charlene Dick of Prairie Grove, Ark., and by nieces and nephews, Roxanne Lange of Clark, CO; Catherine Clark of Des Moines, Iowa; Alicia Huffman of Hamel, Minn.; William Dick and Gary Dick of Prairie Grove, Ark.; and seven grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

At Carolea’s request, there will be no services. She will be inurned at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton near her parents. Memorials have been established with the Caring Hands Humane Society of Newton or Newton Public Library in her memory, and may be delivered to Peterson’s Funeral Home.
