Obituary

NEWTON — Jerry Dean Dyck passed away on Monday (May 28, 2012), surrounded by his family.  He was born on Feb. 7, 1946, in Peabody to Agnes Rempel and John Dyck. Jerry attended school at Cedar Point for two years. His family moved to Newton, and Jerry graduated from Newton High School in 1964. He served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1969. On Aug. 17, 1977, Jerry married Pamela Christianson in Kechi.

Jerry worked for the State of Kansas Highway Department and Flatwork Inc. before going into the concrete business and being self-employed for several years. In 1989, Jerry went to work for Martin K. Eby and worked there for 20 years.

Jerry was an avid collector of sports cards and memorabilia. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, fishing and tending his garden. Jerry also loved spending time with his family and pets.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Pam Dyck; stepdaughter, Tammy and Sean Nibert of Trenton, Fla.; stepsons, Tracy and Debbie Christianson, and Steve and Samantha Christianson of Newton; grandchildren, Nicolette Hall of Emmeryville, Calif., Brandon Hall of Trenton, Fla., Andrew Christianson of McPherson, Chelsea Paxson of Lawrence, and Matthew Christianson, Marissa Christianson, Justine Christianson, Joshua Christianson, Jayden Christianson, Gabriel Christianson, Daniel Christianson and Jordan Christianson of Newton; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harold and Neva Dyck of Newton; sister, Betty Jantz of Newton; sister, Joann Youngblood of Arvada, Colo.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerry was proceeded in death by his mother and father; a brother, Earl; a granddaughter, Jade; and a nephew, Gary.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday (May 31, 2012) at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Graveside committal service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday (June 1, 2012) at Greenwood Cemetery, with Pastor Doug Ingmire presiding.

Memorials are suggested to Cancer Center of Kansas, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
