Obituary
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Barbrajean Thornton, 77, passed away
at her home on Sunday (May 20, 2012).
She was born on Sept. 22, 1934, in Newton. She was born the
daughter of Delmire Oba and Esther Butts. She was later adopted by Kathryn
Jensen Haiber. Barbrajean had an associate’s degree in nursing and worked many
years in Axtell hospital’s maternity ward. She finally retired in Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.
She is survived by her six children, Tonie J. Polley and
husband, Ray, Terie J. Neff, Larry A. Neer, David K. Neer and Julie D. Tschudi;
stepson, Sonley K. Neer; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a son, Ronald Ray Neer; her first
husband, Marvin A. Neer; her second husband, who she married later in life,
Harold W. Thornton; her father, Delmire Butts; her adopted mother, Kathryn
Haiber; and her mother, Esther Moore.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday (May 25, 2012) at
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. The
funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday (May 26, 2012) at Petersen Funeral
Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials have been established with Ronald McDonald House,
in care of the funeral home.
