Obituary
Roy J. Manka, 81, died on Saturday (May 12, 2012) at Kansas
Christian Home in Newton. He was born on Aug. 3, 1930, in Peabody to Gilbert
Arthur and Gladys (Burton) Manka. On Feb. 14, 2001, he married Betty McAlister
in Peabody. Roy was retired from the National Weather Service. He was a member
of Peabody United Methodist Church. Roy enjoyed spending time traveling with
his wife. He especially enjoyed spontaneous, unplanned trips around the area.
Alaska was one of his favorite vacations.
Roy collected shot glasses on his travels and proudly
numbered and displayed them. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and
family and always had a card game of Skipbo or Aggravation at the ready for
their visits.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; stepdaughter
and her husband, Robin and Brian Massek of Topeka; stepson, Bryan McKnight of
Dighton; sister, Thelma Warkentine of Peabody; 10 grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lyle
Manka; and two sisters, Helen Storbeck and Marjorie Morgan.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Peabody
United Methodist Church in Peabody, with the Rev. David Ragland presiding.
Burial will follow in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
