Obituary
Newton -- Jon Dale Soyez, 74, of Newton, died on Monday (May
7, 2012) at Newton Medical Center. Jon was born on Sept. 21, 1937, in Marion.
He was the son of Emile and Grace (Sampson) Soyez. He was born eighth of eight
children. They were Lloyd, Richard, Emile Jr., Louise, Vida, Cecelia and
LuEtta. He married Marlis Ellen Montgomery Patterson on Dec. 21, 1956, in
Andover. She is deceased. On March 5, 1987, he married Teresa Maxine
Decker/Saylor in Newton. She survives of the of the home.
Jon was retired from the railroad. He worked for the Santa
Fe and BNSF as a car foreman. He had many interests, such as gardening, guns,
bowling and fishing. He was a handyman and helped many neighbors and friends.
He enjoyed helping on the farm and had a deep love for dogs and cats. He was
gregarious and had a wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa M. Soyez; sons, Marty and
Leona Soyez of Newton, Bret and Pam Soyez of Canton, and Shane Saylor and
Jennifer of Wichita; daughter, Joni Lowenstein of Parker, Colo.; eight
grandchildren, Amy, Ashley, Ryan, Cody, Lacey, Connor, PresleyAnn and Gracelyn;
and one great-grandchild, Clara.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Grace
Soyez; and all of his brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen
Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem
United Methodist Church of Newton. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood
Cemetery of Newton.

Jon was a good man who touched the lives of many. His
presence, care and humor will be missed by friends, family and his four-legged
friends in the neighborhood.
