Charles E. Martin
Charles E. Martin, 74, died Thursday
(April 4, 2002) at Newton Presbyterian Manor. He was born Jan. 31,
1928, to Charles H. and Mary Elizabeth (Lard) Martin in Hutchinson.
They preceded him in death. He married Bertha Mae Elliott July 3,
1949, in Hutchinson. She survives of the home in Newton. He was
raised in Hutchinson and graduated from Hutchinson High School with
the class of 1945. He served with the U.S. Navy following high school
from 1945 to 1949. From 1952 to 1982, he served with the National
Guard. He was a train master with the Santa Fe Railroad in Hutchinson
until 1985 when he moved to Newton and served at the Newton station.
He retired in 1987 after 38 years of service. He was an official for
the National Junior College Athletic Association from 1949 to 1975.
He also served on the Buhler School District No. 313 School Board
from 1971 to 1975. He was a member of the First Church of the
Nazarene in Newton.
Other survivors include: two daughters,
Marsha Clark and husband Dale of North Newton and Sondra VanArsdale
and husband Stew of Springfield, Mo.; a granddaughter, Staci Penner
and husband Carey of Newton; a grandson, Van VanArsdale and wife
Lynette of Springfield, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Damon Clark
Penner and Laniese Charlena Penner of Newton and Audrey Mae
VanArsdale of Springfield; and three brothers, Robert Martin of
Hutchinson, Dale Martin of Ulysses and John Martin of Burrton, Mich.
He also was preceded in death by three
brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m.
today, from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p. m. Sunday
with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p. m. Saturday at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 10 a. m.
Monday at First Church of the Nazarene in Newton with Pastor Bernie
Dickson officiating.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p. m.
Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson with military honors.
