Obituary
MCPHERSON — Marie E. Schmidt, 93, of McPherson, passed away
on Monday (April 23, 2012) at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was a
homemaker and former retail sales clerk.
She was born on Nov. 3, 1918, in Conway, the daughter of
Edison F. and Ella J. (Wiard) Miller. She lived most of her life in the
McPherson and Newton area.
On Aug. 25, 1937, she married Howard D. Schmidt in Lincoln.
He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1988.
Marie was a member of First United Methodist Church, the
Mary Martha Circle, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, American Business Women’s
Association, Buttons & Bows Square Dance Club, and the Golden Age Round
Dance Club.
Survivors include: three daughters, Eulala Groves of Katy,
Texas, Anita Young of Omaha, Neb., and Elaine Adams of Omaha; a son, Delinn
Schmidt (Jeanna) of Missouri Valley, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-
grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and
three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and
five brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stockham
Family Funeral Home of McPherson, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7
p.m.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stockham
Family Funeral Home. The Rev. Karen Rice Ratzlaff will officiate the service.
Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Heart
Association, the Alzheimer’s Association or First United Methodist Church, in
care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
