Doris Marie Gough
Obituary
NEWTON — Doris Marie Gough, 86, passed away on April 4,
2012, in Newton.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1925, in north-central Kansas. She
was a twin daughter of Ralph Allen and Olive Wendell (Boone) Lehman. She
attended school in Dickinson County, graduating from Chapman High School. She
later graduated from Kansas State University, where she met Marvin L. Gough,
her husband of 62 years.
She was a charter member of the Kansas Oldtime Fiddlers,
Pickers and Singers. Marvin and Doris entertained across the North American
continent as they traveled in their RV for 15 years and encouraged youth to
learn music with programs at schools and the offer of a fiddle on which to
learn.
She was an outstanding cook, and her pies were a much-anticipated
treat whenever she and Marvin attended social gatherings.
Doris worked for Social and Rehabilitation Service for the
state of Kansas for more than 20 years in Linn County and in the Hutchinson
area office, as the area chief. She cared about people, and she helped every
person she could.
Survivors include five sons, John and wife, Jean of Topeka,
Dan and wife, Helen of Burrton, Ed and wife, Paula of Dighton, Jim and wife,
Vicki of Hesston, and Bill and wife, Tammy of Wichita; 15 grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters: a twin, Dorothy
Barnett of Manhattan, and Bernice Houghton of the Tipton area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and
