Obituary
Marcelina Ruiz Solis, 97, loving wife,
mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and
friend was called to heaven on Sunday (Feb. 26, 2017) at the Kansas
Christian Home in Newton.
She was born in Emporia on June 18,
1919, to Jesus and Alijandra Ruiz. She married Joe N. Solis, Sr. on
July 18, 1936, in Emporia. They settled in Newton in 1955.
Marcelina was a homemaker for the first
20 years of marriage while her husband was employed by the Santa Fe
Railroad. She retired from Friendly Acres after many years of loyal
service. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and
the Altar society, spending many hours volunteering her time and
talent.
She is best remembered for her
incredible cooking and her unwavering devotion to her family.
Marcelina is survived by daughter,
Virginia Avila (Julio) of Wichita; two sons, Joe R. Solis (Gina) of
Newton and Gilbert R. Solis (Gloria) of Overland Park; seven
grandchildren, Marissa Marfield, Gilbert Solis Jr, Angie Muci, Paul
Solis, John Muci, Sheris Solis and Ali Solis; 16 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
She was proceeded in death by her
parents; husband; daughter, Esperanza Solis; grandson, Frank Muci;
and sister, Mary De La Torre.
The Recitation of the Rosary will be at
7 p.m. Friday (March 3, 2017) with the Mass of Christian Burial
Funeral at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday (March 4, 2017), both of which will
be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment
will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial has been established with
the building fund of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Broadway, Newton.
