Obituary
Donald C. "Don" Whitney, 95,
died Friday (Feb. 24, 2017) at Newton Medical Center. He was born
Dec. 31, 1921, in Wilder, Vermont to Edward R. and Rita M. (Clough)
Whitney. On Jan. 4, 1944, he married Ellen J. Failing in Hanford,
California. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2016. Don served
his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp and the U.S. Airforce,
attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served in WWII, Korea
and Vietnam. He enjoyed fishing and reading and looked forward to
traveling and road trips around the country. Don enjoyed baseball and
was a pitcher in his younger years. He greatly enjoyed spending time
with his loving family and many friends.
He is survived by daughters Carole and
Bob Howes of Poway, California and Donna and David Withiam of Newton.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
and four great-great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his
parents; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson.
A graveside committal service will be
at 10 a.m. Saturday (March 4, 2017) at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton,
with Chaplain Jerroll Martens and Pastor Scott Kliewer presiding.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home,
with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral
home.
