Obituary
NEWTON — Lyle E. Yost, 99, died on Thursday (April 5, 2012),
at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Lyle was born on March 5, 1913, in a home northwest of
Hesston. His parents were Joseph and Edith Alma (Hensley) Yost. Lyle attended
Goshen College in Goshen, Ind., where he received his bachelor’s degree in
economics in 1937 and a teaching certificate in 1942. On July 31, 1938, he
married Erma Martin.
Lyle was known as a business leader, inventor and
philanthropist. He received many designations, awards and recognitions, but his
greatest business accomplishment was being the designer and inventor of the
1947 unloading auger, the catalyst for the development of Hesston
Manufacturing/Hesston Corp. which in now known as AGCO. He was the founder of
that firm and served as President and CEO from 1950 to 1975.
Preceding Lyle in death was his wife Erma M. Yost, sister
Zella Yost King, companion Edith Yoder, daughter Necia Ann Yost, and grandchild
Elizabeth Ann Yost.
Survivors include 3 sons, Byron and Beth (Fisher) Yost,
Castle Rock, Colo., Winston and Cheryl (Rohrs) Yost, Larkspur, Colo., and
Cameron and Miriam (Fleisher)Yost, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Susan
Yost and husband CW Crumm, Hesston; grandchildren, Jon Yost, Boise, Idaho,
Joseph Yost, Colorado Springs, Colo., Jenna Yost Galvan, Colorado Springs,
Colo., Alicia Yost, Colorado Springs, Colo., Teresa Yost, Colorado Springs,
Colo.; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet from 5 to 8 p.m. with a
Men’s Quartet singing at 7 p.m.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hesston
Mennonite Church in Hesston.
Memorial funds have been established with the Aspen Chapel
and the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp, in care of the funeral home at 120 E.
Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
