Lois Strait
Obituary
Lois Jeanette Strait, 91, has been
called home by her loving Savior. Born Lois Gilchrist in Newton, she
graduated from high school, worked a year, and then took a train to
Columbus, Ohio, to marry the love of her life, Winfred Kenneth
Strait, who was serving in the World War Two U.S. Army Air Corps.
Married 73 years, their lifelong
devotion to one another is the stuff of romance novels, and together,
they have painted a tapestry of what a blessing enduring love can be.
Lois was a mother and homemaker.
In addition to her love for W.K., it
was her love of children, her passion for music, her creativity and
her servant's heart that were the foundations of her life. She raised
three children, and then went on to shower love on others' children
throughout her life. She was a seamstress, singer, pianist and a
compassionate friend to so many. Lois served faithfully doing church
music (piano/organ/bells/choir), church work (committees, card
ministry, camp grandma, VBS volunteer, etc.), and God's work beyond
the walls of the church (ecumenical women's service, nursing home
fundraising, sewing & blanket-making ministry, and on and on it
went).
In addition to her beloved W.K., she
leaves behind two sons, Gary (Rima) of Littleton, Colorado and
Michael (Irene Chung) of Tara Hills, California; daughter, Rebecca
Strait (Gary Wilbanks) of North Canton, Ohio; four grandchildren,
Bryon (Nicola), Ari (Joanna), Elan (Janeace) and Sevan; seven
great-grandchildren: Mckenzie, Paige, Payton, Mason, Jillian, Ryan
and Oliver; and countless other extended family and friends who loved
her dearly.
A long-time member of Hillside
Christian Church in Wichita, she attended First Baptist Church of
Canton after she and her W.K. moved to Ohio in 2008.
There will be no memorial service at
this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to First
Baptist Church of Canton (4110 38th St. NW, Canton OH 44718 /
