Obituary
ROGERS, Ark. — Duane Hand, 86, a longtime resident of Beaver
Shores, Rogers, Ark., for more than 32 years, passed away on Saturday (March
24, 2012) at his home.
Duane was born on Feb. 24, 1926, in Newton to Robert and
Ethel (Roles) Hand. Duane served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War
II (1945 to 1947) and received an honorable discharge. On March 6, 1949, he
married Dorine (Stelljes) in Newton, and they were married for more than 63
years before his death.
Duane was a resident of Newton for more than 50 years, and
he was owner/operator of Hand & Hand Phillips 66 Truck Stop Service
Station. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the
American Legion. While a member of the VFW in Newton, Duane served on the honor
guard and performed funeral honors at Greenwood Cemetery that was right behind
his south pasture property. Duane also was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church
in Newton.
After retirement from his truck stop, Duane and Dorine moved
to northwest Arkansas and made their home in Beaver Shores, Rogers, Ark., where
Duane was a member of the Beaver Shores Property Owners.
Duane was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of
Rogers, where he served as an usher and gospel reader, and was an elder for
many years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, skiing and playing bridge. Duane was a wonderful husband and father, and
he loved his family very much and will be missed.
Duane is survived by his wife, Dorine Hand of the home; one
son, Gary Hand of Rogers, Ark.; one daughter, Colleen Catroppa and husband,
Tony of Rogers; one brother, Bill Hand and wife, Judy of Newton; one grandson,
Tony Catroppa Jr. of Fayetteville, Ark.; numerous nieces, nephews and other
relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters,
Wilma Fey and Doris Littlefield.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity
Lutheran Church in Rogers (1101 W. Hudson Road), with the Rev. Gordon Besel
officiating. Entombment will follow at Benton County Memorial Park’s Rose
Garden Columbarium (3800 W. Walnut) in Rogers.
