Banman, Hazel Betty

The Newton Kansan

Hazel Betty Banman

Obituary

BOULDER, Colo. — Hazel Betty Banman, 95, long-time resident of Newton and most recently of Boulder, Colo., passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012. She was born on May 10, 1916, in Ellsworth, Kan., to Edward N. and Hazel Fay Bornschein.

Mrs. Banman was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Anton Banman. The couple met at Newton High School, and were married in 1941. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Mari) Matson, of Idaho Springs, Co., a son, John M. Banman, of Erie, Co.; a nephew, Mark Bornschein, of Ft. Lupton, Colo., four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous other friends and family.

While living in Newton, Mrs. Banman sewed professionally and was active in the Presbyterian Church, two great passions throughout her life.  Over the years, she also especially enjoyed preparing special meals for family gatherings, as well as gardening. Perhaps most of all, family members will remember her bright and optimistic personality, and her enduring zest for life. After moving to Denver, Colo., in 1965, she worked as a dental office manager but always appreciated time spent at the family cabin near Nederland, Colo. She also traveled to favorite vacation spots throughout the state, where she and her husband often fished and camped in an RV. During the last decade of her life, Mrs. Banman lived independently at Golden West Manor, a senior residence in Boulder, where she enjoyed many activities with close friends.

Graveside services are planned Monday, March 26, at 12 noon, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colo. Mrs. Banman's family suggests that contributions be made in her memory to the charity of the donor's choice.
