Obituary
Michael G. Dechant, 57, died Wednesday
(March 8, 2017) at his Halstead residence. He was born Jan. 28, 1960,
in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Elmer R. and Billie J. (Soctt) Dechant. On
Jan. 8, 1999, he married Laurie "Jill" Martin and she
survives of the home.
Michael served his country in the U.S.
Army and was a plumber installing Echo water softeners. He had a love
of farming and he farmed land around the Ness City area prior to
moving to Halstead. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member
of the NRA. Michael had a soft spot for dogs and enjoyed spending
time with his Rottweilers. Family was very important and he greatly
looked forward to spending time with his loving family, grandchildren
and many friends.
He is survived by his wife Jill of the
home; sons, Jonathan (Angie) Harris and Jeremy Harris, both of
Wichita; daughters, Michelle (Travis) Scott of Lockhart, Texas,
Crystal (Daniel) Beougher of Arkansas City, Aubry (Ryan) Boyce of
Derby and Angela and Ben Sirmans of Towanda; and sister, Sherrie
Smith of Colorado. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, who he
adored.
Michael is preceded in death by his
parents; sister, Michelle; and brother, Mitchell.
Graveside committal service with
military honors will be 10 a.m. Tuesday (March 14, 2017) at Halstead
City Cemetery in Halstead. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday
(March 13, 2017) at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving
friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
