Obituary
LINDSBORG — Walter Richard Schmidt, age 93, a long-time
Newton resident, died at Lindsborg Community Hospital in Lindsborg on Friday
(March 9, 2012) after a short illness.
He was born on April 5, 1918, in Hebron, Neb., to Fred and
Zella Mae Schmidt. He married Lessie C. Miller, who preceded him in death in
2008, on Dec. 2, 1945 in Hebron, Neb.
Walter and Lessie lived in the Hebron area until moving to
Newton in 1957. In Newton, Walter worked for many years as a welder and plant
foreman for Hesston Corp. After retirement they moved to Weslaco, Texas, in
1984. They moved to Lindsborg in 2002. In Lindsborg, Walter was very active
with many of the activities in Bethany Home.
Survivors include three sisters; four brothers; two sons,
Dennis and wife, Marsha of Apex, N.C., and Curtis and wife, Pamela of Newton;
eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by one son, Richard Gene
Schmidt.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the
Bethany Home Chapel, with Pastor Bill Buschbom presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
Bethany Home of Lindsborg.
