Alfred B, Mayfield
PONCA CITY, Okla. -- Alfred B. Mayfield died peacefully in his sleep at Ponca City, Oklahoma, Feb. 9, 2017. He was the son of Archie and Lydia Seiler Mayfield, and was delivered at Halstead at the home of his aunt and uncle by Dr. Arthur Hertzler. He was born June 8, 1934.
Alfred was a pilot, an avid water skier, a writer, an inventor and entrepreneur.
Among his many accomplishments were the constant velocity joint that led to the success of the Hesston Swather, an anti kick back device for power saws purchased by a Japanese company, and, The Wiener Roller. Alfred also had several published books. The Combine Book sold at grain elevators in several of the surrounding states at harvest time, and, How to Drive on Ice and Snow, used by many school's driver's education classes.
Alfred is survived by two sisters, Beth Vannata and Kathy Mayfield, both of Halstead; children, Danone Zupko, Lavonne Moore, Jeff Mayfield, Arne Adamson, Cherise Black, Wynn Hexamer, Clifford Hexamer, Ashley Mayfield, Ansley Mayfield, Aubrey Mayfield and Angelia Carroll; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William; and son Aaron Adamson. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at Halstead at a later date.
