Obituary
Ruby Susanna Kasper, 98, died on Sunday
(March 19, 2017) at her home in Newton, surrounded by her loving
family.
Ruby was born on March 1, 1919, in
Collinsville, Oklahoma, to Jacob J. and Gertrude (Wiens) Adrian. She
was the sixth of eight children and the last one of them to die.
She lived on a farm in rural Burrton
and graduated from Halstead High School. She met Edward E. Kasper and
they were married. Together they had eight children. Ruby lived in
Newton most of her life.
Later in life, she moved to Hutchinson
for 10 years, then, had a house built here in Newton at the age of 80
and moved in when she turned 81, on her birthday. She lived there for
15 years, then, at 96, she moved in with her loving daughter and
son-in-law.
Ruby found great joy in gardening,
sewing, baking and canning. For at least 60 years she would enter the
baking, canning and sewing garments and her home-grown vegetables in
the Kansas State and Harvey County fairs. She won many, many purple
ribbons.
She was a very good caregiver and had
at least five degrees in nursing. Her last 12 years she worked as a
senior companion, until she was 96.
Survivors include her daughter Doris
Miller and son-in-law Jim H. Miller; sons, Harold Kasper of Oklahoma,
Jerry, Roy and Bill Kasper, Newton; 14 grandchildren; 16
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her
parents; daughter, Delores Jean Schmidt; two sons, Charles Kasper and
Donald D. Kasper; brothers, Jonathan Adrian, Milton Adrian and Otto
Adrian; and sisters, Rosella Adrian Crigger, Bertha Adrian, Verna
Adrian and Leona Adrian Rilling.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday (March 22, 2017) at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Seventh
Day Adventist Church in care of the funeral home at 120 E. Broadway,
Newton, KS 67114.
