Obituary

Ruby Susanna Kasper, 98, died on Sunday (March 19, 2017) at her home in Newton, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruby was born on March 1, 1919, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, to Jacob J. and Gertrude (Wiens) Adrian. She was the sixth of eight children and the last one of them to die.

She lived on a farm in rural Burrton and graduated from Halstead High School. She met Edward E. Kasper and they were married. Together they had eight children. Ruby lived in Newton most of her life.

Ruby found great joy in gardening, sewing, baking and canning. For at least 60 years she would enter the baking, canning and sewing garments and her home-grown vegetables in the Kansas State and Harvey County fairs. She won many, many purple ribbons.

She was a very good caregiver and had at least five degrees in nursing. Her last 12 years she worked as a senior companion, until she was 96.

Survivors include her daughter Doris Miller and son-in-law Jim H. Miller; sons, Harold Kasper of Oklahoma, Jerry, Roy and Bill Kasper, Newton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Delores Jean Schmidt; two sons, Charles Kasper and Donald D. Kasper; brothers, Jonathan Adrian, Milton Adrian and Otto Adrian; and sisters, Rosella Adrian Crigger, Bertha Adrian, Verna Adrian and Leona Adrian Rilling.
