Obituary
Marvin Joseph Kratky, 68, of Hesston,
died Wednesday (March 29, 2017) at the Via Christi Regional Medical
Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita after a long battle with Crohn's
Disease.
He was born July 1, 1948, in Kansas
City, Missouri. His parents were Joseph and Sylvia Bartunek Kratky.
They lived in Wilson, where he graduated from high school in 1968.
Marvin attended North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit,
studying diesel mechanics and welding. From there, he enlisted in the
U.S. Army. He spent most of his military time in Germany.
Marvin married Carol Reinert on July
17, 1970, in Tipton.
He worked as a beam welder at AGCO for
38 years. After retiring, Marvin worked part time at Kropf Lumber in
Hesston.
Most of his life, Marvin was an avid
wood worker. He made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his
friends and family. A lot of his woodworking pieces can be seen
throughout the community.
Marvin was a member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Newton, where he was very active and held many
offices. One of them was that he was an honorary member of the
Knights of Columbus. He served as the District Deputy for three
years.
He was a member of the American Legion;
through the years he was very active in the Boy Scouts and Girl
Scouts when his children were growing up. Marvin also was a volunteer
for the blood mobile. He enjoyed dancing, very loud country music and
spending time in his shop along with visits from his four
grandchildren, loving all of their hugs and kisses.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Carol,
of the home, in Hesston; daughters, Renee Dreisigaker and husband
Kirk of Topeka, and Tracy Graber and husband Kendall of Hesston; his
four grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Conner and Abby; brother, Gary
Kratky and wife Nancy of Wilson; and sister, Rose Hansen of
Concordia; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents;
and two sons, Nathan and Peter.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will
be at 7 p.m. Sunday (April 2, 2017), with the Mass of Christian
Burial at 10 a.m. Monday (April 3, 2017), both at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Newton.
The casket will be open at the church
after 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Graveside services and interment will
be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church
Cemetery in Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests
memorial gifts be given to the Kratky Grandchildren Educational Fund
or the St. Mary's Renovation Project. Contributions may be sent to
