Obituary

John McKinley passed away on February 23, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He was born in New Mexico on July 1, 1947, and spent early years growing up with family and friends there. He moved with his mother to Newton, where he attended Newton High School.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served with distinction in the Vietnam war. He was wounded twice in action and was awarded the Purple Heart and other service medals. After an honorable discharge, he returned home to Hesston.

He worked for Hesston Corporation and attended Wichita State University. For many years, he owned a business in Wichita near the campus. He then worked for Mirror, Inc. as a counselor in Newton. He retired from there to begin writing at his home near Hesston.

John cared deeply for fellow veterans from any active service and devoted much time to their support. John had many friends both local and distant, and close family in New Mexico. He will be missed by all.
