Robert E. Harber
Obituary
WICHITA — Robert E. Harber passed away on Friday (Dec. 30,
2011).
He was born on Oct. 8, 1922, in Redfield to Clarence Lee and
Lila Mae Quick Harber. He graduated from Fort Scott High School and Ft. Scott
Junior College, and then went to work for Martin Aircraft in Baltimore.
He was drafted in 1943 and served in the Navy for two years
as an aircraft mechanic. Robert returned to Kansas and attended the University
of Wichita, where he received a degree in accounting in 1948 and started a
career with the Internal Revenue Service, working in both Wichita and Salina.
In 1948, he married Dorothy Virginia Penn, also from
Redfield. They raised three sons, Dale, Roger and Brian. Robert retired from
the IRS in 1979 and became an avid golfer. He enjoyed traveling with Dorothy.
In 1988 Dorothy passed away suddenly. In 1990, Robert
married Violet Tomkins of Newton, and moved to Newton. Violet passed away in
2007.
Robert is survived by his sons, Dale, Roger and Brian; a
granddaughter and two grandsons; sisters, Lois Smith and Elizabeth Lundberg;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; second
wife, Violet; his parents; brother, Russell; and sister, Ruth Christophersen.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, with
services following at 2 p.m., both at Lakeview Funeral Home of Wichita.
