ROBERT JAMES 'JIM' DEVORE
Robert James "Jim" DeVore, 80, Newton, died
Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at his home.
Services are planned 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at
Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
He was born June 28, 1931, in Lower Drew, Ontario, Canada,
the son of James G. "Shine" DeVore and Olive Holtom DeVore. The
family lived in Wyandotte, Mich., for several years before moving to Ottawa,
where Jim attended schools.
During the Korean conflict, Jim served in the U.S. Army.
In 1954, he wed Mary Dodds in Ottawa, they moved to Canada
in 1957, living mainly in the Drew and Harriston communities in Ontario. Jim
worked for many years in the dairy industry.
He moved to Longton in 2000 where he lived with his longtime
partner, Nita Bishop.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Jay, Jeff, Rob,
Charles, and daughter, Susan, all of Ontario; his brother, Bill DeVore, and
wife, Shirley, Princeton; his sister, Jane, and husband, Albert, Ontario; his
partner, Nita Bishop, Newton; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, as
well as several nieces and nephews including, Jane Bolte, Newton, and Beverly
House, Belle Plaine.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Judy DeVore
Larios Peters and Mary Lou Campbell Martin; son, Scott; and nephew, Jimmie
Peters.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas
and contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E.
Broadway Newton, KS 67114.
