Obituary
NORTH NEWTON — Norma J. Wiens, 78, died on Tuesday (Jan. 10,
2012) at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton from complications of
Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born on June 7, 1933, in Newton to Otto and Ella
(Sperling) Bachman. Norma was raised in Moundridge and graduated from
Moundridge High School in 1951 and Bethel College in 1955. She was a member of
Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.
Norma was a school teacher in the Kansas City area,
secretary/treasurer of the Western District Conference and served as a
missionary to India alongside her husband for eight years. She also was a
founding member of the Newton Area Peace Center, Kauffman Museum Board, and a
founding member of the Rainbow Avenue Mennonite Church in Kansas City, General
Conference Mennonite Church General Board Member, and a member of the Newton
Treble Clef Music Club.
Norma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she
greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many
friends.
She is survived by her husband, J. Wendell Wiens of Newton;
daughter, Annelle and her husband, Tom Claassen of Salina; son, David Wiens and
his wife, Erin of Tigard, Ore.; sister, Carolyn Voran of North Newton; and a
brother, Gene Bachman of Moundridge. Norma also had four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister,
Kathleen Schroeder.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Kidron
Bethel Community Room.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at
Faith Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Gordon Smith presiding. There will be a
private family inurnment at the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Hillsboro.
