Brenda Jean Odle Laughlin

Obitaury    

HESSTON — Brenda Jean Odle Laughlin, 71, passed away on Monday (Jan. 16, 2012) at her home in Hesston.

She was born on May 18, 1940, in Junction City, the daughter of Wayne F. and M. Louise Blaker Odle. In high school, she sang with the Triple Trio group, and also sang with her church in Junction City. She graduated from Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in 1961, and she was a life member of the Stormont-Vail Nurses Alumni Association.

Brenda worked in various registered nurse positions, including Bethel Hospital in Newton, and then she worked for Hesston Corp. until her retirement in 2003.  

On Oct. 8, 1961, she married William “Bud” Laughlin at First Christian Church in Junction City. He survives.

Brenda was a member of Hesston United Methodist Church, where she was very active. She also served on the Hesston Resource Center Board of Directors, and was a volunteer for many years with the Hesston EMS crew. Brenda also was a sponsoring member of the USO and was a member of the Caring Hearts Humane Society. She also loved reading, and the many books in the Laughlin library confirm this.

She is survived by three daughters, Dana Laughlin of Wichita, Tanya (Tom) Ketchum of Hutchinson and Amy (Mark) Elliot of Hutchinson; brothers, Tom (Cathy) Odle of Wichita, Bob Odle and Teresa Baughman of Manhattan, and David Odle of Newton; and grandchildren, Taylor and Austin Rea, Nathaniel, Nicholas and Samuel Elliot, and Ryan and Dustin Ketchum.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne F. and M. Louise Odle.

 Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston.

A celebration of life will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hesston United Methodist Church in Hesston, with Pastor Geniese Stanford officiating. 

Burial will follow in Hesston City Cemetery in Hesston.  

Memorials may be made to Hesston United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or Caring Hands Humane Society, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster, P.O. Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062.
